Tigard PETS - Pet Emergency Transportation and Shelter

Tigard PETS – Pet Emergency Transportation and Shelter is a nonprofit pet-support organization based in Tigard, Oregon, in Washington County, where it operates alongside 10 other animal shelters and rescues, roughly 8 miles northeast of Portland. Rather than a traditional adoption shelter, Tigard PETS organizes and administers a local pet and livestock sheltering plan that activates during and after disasters such as earthquakes, floods, severe storms, volcanic eruptions, pandemics, and acts of terrorism, in line with Oregon state requirements and FEMA best practices. Its work includes identifying shelter sites, gathering supplies like carriers and pet food, recruiting volunteers, and coordinating with veterinary resources, all aimed at educating pet owners on emergency preparedness and deploying an efficient, scalable pet-sheltering system when disaster strikes.
