Adoption Process

Adopters submit an online application, complete a phone interview, do a meet & greet at the kennel, undergo a home visit (which can extend to an overnight/trial stay), and then finalize adoption paperwork and pay the adoption fee.

Project POOCH in Lake Oswego, OR

Project POOCH is an animal shelter based in Lake Oswego, Oregon, located in Clackamas County, roughly 7 miles north of Portland, and shares the county with 7 other animal shelters and rescues. It operates a kennel inside a youth correctional facility, pairing incarcerated youth with shelter dogs so the youth can learn kennel management, positive reinforcement, grooming, and training techniques while the dogs receive training, love, and preparation for adoption into forever homes. Dogs typically spend 4–6 weeks working with a youth trainer before becoming available for adoption, and there is no set limit on how long a dog stays in the program, since care is focused on each dog's individual needs. Project POOCH is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization.
