At any given time the shelter cares for about 15–25 cats and 16–20 dogs awaiting adoption, and adoption fees of $220 for dogs and $150 for cats include spay/neuter surgery, a first set of shots, and a free vet visit. The shelter also serves as the intake point for animals impounded by the Cortez Police Department and provides pet licensing for cats and dogs within Cortez city limits.
