For Pets' Sake Humane Society in Cortez, CO
For Pets' Sake Humane Society is a Cortez, Colorado-based humane society serving Montezuma County, with one other animal shelter or rescue also located in the county; the town sits about 50 miles southeast of Farmington, New Mexico. Founded in 1987 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, the organization is run entirely by volunteers with no paid staff, so all donations go directly toward helping animals in Montezuma and Dolores Counties. Its work includes foster care for cats and dogs awaiting adoption, financial assistance for spaying and neutering, emergency veterinary care aid, low-cost vaccination clinics, and management of feral cat colonies through its Feral Cat Project. The group also provides doghouses to dogs in need and distributes pet food to owners and colony caretakers, funded through membership dues, fundraising, donations, grants, and a permanent Endowment Fund.
