About this shelter

Navajo Nation Animal Shelter in Shiprock, NM

Navajo Nation Animal Shelter is located in Shiprock, New Mexico, about 25 miles east of Farmington, NM, and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It operates under the Navajo Nation Animal Control program, which impounds stray, diseased, and uncontrollable animals, returns animals to their owners upon redemption, and issues animal licenses, vaccinations, parasite control, and microchip identification. The program also investigates bite cases, livestock damage, nuisance calls, and animal cruelty or abuse reports, and works cooperatively with the Navajo Police Department, Social Services, the Division of Health, and local veterinary clinics. Staff also accept voluntary animal surrenders and educate the public on animal control ordinances and responsible pet care.
