Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) is a humane society located in Georgetown, Delaware, about 15 miles north of Milford. It is open Tuesday through Friday from 12:00–6:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 AM–5:00 PM. BVSPCA is one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the region and one of the only remaining open-access shelters, helping more than 27,000 animals a year, including lost pets, abandoned dogs and cats, cruelty victims, pets in need of rehoming, and homeless pets at risk of euthanasia elsewhere. Its mission is to "end animal suffering and empower communities to find the heart in humanity," and it offers services such as adoption, fostering, a wellness clinic, low-cost spay and neuter, and daycare and boarding.

Adoption process

Visit the shelter to meet adoptable animals, complete a "Getting to Know You" questionnaire, meet with an adoption counselor and your chosen pet, fill out paperwork, and take your new pet home the same day; adopters must be at least 18 with a driver's license and pay adoption fees by credit card.
