Havanese Rescue Inc. (HRI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing purebred Havanese and Havanese mixes that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. This includes dogs found in animal shelters, as well as those relinquished by their owners. HRI ensures that these dogs receive the necessary care, including medical treatment and spaying or neutering. Additionally, the organization is committed to educating the public about the issues surrounding puppy mills and promoting responsible dog ownership, which encompasses spaying and neutering, training, and humane care for Havanese and other pets.

Adoption process

Individuals interested in adopting one of our rescued animals must first complete an Adoption Application. After submission, the applicant will receive a confirmation from our Assistance team, which will include the email address of the State Contact (SC) for their state. If the applicant is interested in a dog located in another state, the SC will forward the application to the appropriate contacts. If the applicant meets the requirements for the rescue dog, either the foster caregiver or the SC will reach out to the applicant. A home visit is required as part of the approval process. Once the potential adopter is approved by both the foster caregiver and the SC, a request for the Adoption Fee will be submitted to the Dog Management team along with the Adoption Application. Our fees range from $50 to $500, depending on the age and health of the dog. All approved applicants will receive a phone call from our Pre-Adopt Committee to discuss the potential challenges and responsibilities of adopting a new dog.

Service area: We are a nationwide rescue organization without a physical shelter. All of our rescue dogs are placed in foster homes, where dedicated volunteers ensure that each dog receives necessary medical care and behavioral training. This support helps prepare the dogs for a successful transition to their forever homes.
