FuRRR Feline Rescue in Gonic, NH

FuRRR Feline Rescue is a nonprofit, no-kill organization based in New Hampshire, established in 2015. Our mission is to rescue cats from abandonment, provide necessary rehabilitation, facilitate adoptions, and offer a retirement sanctuary for those in need. We focus on elderly, special needs, and at-risk kittens and cats from high-kill shelters in the southern United States, collaborating with southern rescue partners. Many of the cats we take in require significant medical care that they would not receive elsewhere. Our rehabilitation services include emergency medical treatment, management of chronic conditions, and emotional support for traumatized cats. We work closely with local trappers to rescue stray cats and accept pets surrendered by their owners for various reasons. All cats in our care are spayed or neutered and receive comprehensive veterinary care. They reside in cage-free communal rooms, allowing them to roam freely and socialize, except during a 48-hour intake quarantine or when isolated due to illness. We also maintain a network of foster homes for pregnant cats, mothers with kittens, and cats requiring frequent medical attention. FuRRR collaborates with local retail stores to promote adoptions. When our cats are healthy and behaviorally stable, they are placed in our adoption network, where they are showcased in store habitats and featured in monthly adoption events to facilitate quicker placements. For those cats that may be less appealing to potential adopters due to age, chronic illness, or behavioral issues, we provide a lifetime sanctuary. Our retirement residents include cats aged 18 and 19, who were surrendered after their owners passed away, as well as others with neurological disorders and various behavioral challenges. Our volunteers dedicate extra time to care for these special needs cats. We serve the areas of New Hampshire, southern Maine, and northeast Massachusetts, with some adopters traveling considerable distances, including from Colorado, to welcome our cats into their homes. FuRRR is committed to minimizing administrative costs so that nearly every dollar donated directly benefits our cats. Approximately 98% of all contributions are allocated to animal rescue and rehabilitation, with only 2% supporting administration and fundraising. This efficiency is supported by our volunteer Board of Directors. We have cultivated a small but growing group of recurring monthly sponsors and conduct online auctions featuring donated items from supporters, which are held several times a year on our Facebook page. All proceeds from these events support the care of our cats. When we encounter cats with extensive medical needs, we organize online fundraisers to assist with costs. Our dedicated supporters have helped us provide critical care for a range of medical issues, from severe respiratory infections to complex surgical procedures. One notable case is Turtle, a kitten found abandoned who underwent successful liver shunt surgery and has since thrived. FuRRR is passionate about advocating for the voiceless cats who have faced abandonment, abuse, neglect, and disregard. Each year, we care for an average of 350 to 400 cats, rescuing them from high-kill shelters and local strays or owner surrenders. We ensure they receive all necessary veterinary care before being adopted into loving homes. Our rapid growth from 2015 to 2016 reflects our commitment to feline rescue, and our social media presence showcases the incredible support from both our local community and the broader national cat rescue network. As our volunteer base expands, FuRRR is dedicated to increasing our services in the community and through our partner stores.
