About this shelter

South Heartland Rescue in Princeton, NC

We are a rescue organization dedicated to Arctic breeds, specifically Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, Alaskan Klee Kais, American Eskimos, and Samoyeds. Our mission is to rescue homeless, abused, and abandoned dogs, as well as those from shelters, rehabilitate them, and help them find permanent homes. Our operations are conducted from the private residences of our founders and foster caregivers. We strongly advocate for spay and neuter programs and focus on educating the public about Arctic breeds to reduce the number of these dogs that end up abandoned in shelters.

Adopting from South Heartland Rescue

Adoption process

The adoption process begins with researching the breed of dog you are interested in. Responsible pet ownership relies on understanding the traits associated with different breeds and how to effectively work with them. After completing your research, you can contact us via email or phone. We typically conduct a phone interview, and if we believe you may be a suitable match, we will send you an application along with a Siberian Husky test via email. As part of the application, we require a veterinary reference and three personal references. Once we have reviewed your application and references, we will facilitate the signing of documents and payment of fees. You are welcome to request a meeting with the dog at any stage of this process. Our adoption fees are based on a sliding scale, determined by the specific dog being adopted. While our process may seem rigorous, we are committed to ensuring that our dogs do not experience the trauma of losing a family more than once.
