Adoption Process

Prospective adopters submit an adoption application (in person or online) and visit the shelter to meet the animal; if children under 12 or other pets live in the home they must come for a meet-and-greet, and adopters must be at least 18 with a valid driver's license, complete the application, and pay applicable fees before finalizing an adoption contract.

Snake River Animal Shelter is a no-kill, non-profit animal shelter and rescue serving Idaho Falls, Idaho, located in Bonneville County, where five other animal shelters or rescues also operate. Its mission is to improve and save animal lives by promoting quality care and compassion through adoption and humane education in the region, supported through gifts, volunteering, and adoptions. The shelter offers low-cost spay and neuter services and core vaccines by appointment, along with a TNR (trap, neuter, return) program, dog training, and help for lost and found pets. It's open Monday through Friday from 11:00 am to 5:30 pm and Saturday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, and is closed on Sunday.
