Putnam County Humane Society in Carmel, NY
The Putnam County Humane Society is a not-for-profit animal shelter located in Carmel, New York, in Putnam County, about 25 miles southeast of Norwalk, CT. Founded in 1957 by Marjorie Jenkins, it began as one of the first no-kill shelters in the country, starting out in a small barn on Nichols Street before moving to its current location on Old Route 6 behind Putnam Plaza. The shelter provides care for homeless dogs and cats until they are adopted into forever homes, and it has expanded and improved over the years to keep meeting the needs of its community and pet population as funds permit.

Prospective adopters must submit a Dog & Cat Adoption Application; animals are adopted out already vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped, with dog adoption fees around $275-$300 and cat fees around $150-$200.
