The Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark is a comprehensive animal shelter that has been serving the Tri-State community for over forty years. Founded in 1959 by Robert Kleinstuber in memory of his beloved dog, Jeff, our shelter is dedicated to the protection and welfare of all animals in need.

Adopting from this shelter

Adoption process

The adoption fee for cats that are already spayed or neutered is $45. If the cat has not been altered, there is an additional surgical fee of $25 for male cats and $45 for female cats. For dogs that are already spayed or neutered, the adoption fee is $55. If the dog has not been altered, there is an additional surgical fee of $65. All animals must be spayed or neutered before leaving our shelter. The adoption fees include a collar, an ID tag, a rabies vaccination (if the pet is old enough), the implantation of an ID microchip, and lifetime registration for that microchip. There is a 24-hour waiting period from application to approval. Adoptions are limited to individuals residing within a 50-mile radius of the shelter.
