Farm Sanctuary - East is located in Watkins Glen, New York, in Schuyler County, about 60 miles northeast of Syracuse, and is one of two animal shelters/rescues in the county. Set on 275 acres in the Finger Lakes Region, this New York Sanctuary is home to nearly 400 rescued farm animals, including cows, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, and turkeys. Farm Sanctuary rescues animals from abuse and neglect in the farming industry, works to educate the public, and advocates for change through rescue, education, and advocacy. The organization traces its roots back to the rescue of Hilda, a sheep found left for dead at a stockyard, and has grown into a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to ending animal agriculture and fostering compassionate, vegan living.
