Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with filling out an application, which can be completed online or at the shelter. If the applicant is renting their home, we will contact the landlord to confirm that pets are allowed. We also conduct a veterinarian check for any existing pets to ensure they are current on vaccinations and receive annual wellness exams. It is important for all family members to meet the animal to determine if it is a suitable match. The Humane Society of Schuyler County is a limited admission, no-kill shelter established in 1987. We are the only full-service animal welfare organization dedicated to addressing the needs of our community. Our services include providing shelter for stray and surrendered animals, facilitating adoptions, offering a low-cost spay and neuter program, delivering educational resources, and managing programs to assist residents in caring for their pets. Our mission is focused on five key objectives: eliminating pet overpopulation, preventing animal cruelty, providing quality care for homeless animals, promoting responsible pet ownership, and fostering the development of humane principles toward all animals within the community.
