SAVE Rescue Shelter Shore Animal Volunteer Enterprise is a rescue organization located in Toms River, New Jersey, in Ocean County, about 35 miles northwest of Trenton, NJ, and one of 14 animal shelters and rescues serving Ocean County. Established in 2002, SAVE is an all-volunteer 501(c) nonprofit and a no-kill shelter that takes in unwanted, homeless, and abandoned animals, providing medical care and a safe, nurturing environment until they find permanent homes. The organization grew out of volunteer work at the original Toms River Animal Shelter in the 1990s, played a key role assisting after Hurricane Sandy by saving over 120 animals and reuniting 98% with their owners, and opened its own shelter facility in 2016. Beyond sheltering, SAVE runs a Thrift Store to fund animal care, supports a pet food pantry, and offers community education programs along with volunteer opportunities for students and scout groups.
