Lewis & Clark Humane Society is located in Helena, Montana, in Lewis and Clark County, about 6 miles southwest of the city, and is one of two animal shelters/rescues serving the county. The shelter operates from its facility on E. Custer Avenue, across from Costco, offering open kennel viewing for adoptable dogs and cats throughout the week. It provides a range of community services including stray intake and reuniting, trap-neuter-return for cats, animal surrender assistance, and a Home To Home program that lets pet owners rehome their animals independently. Beyond adoptions, the organization relies on fostering, volunteering, and donor support to help save the lives of homeless pets in the community.

Adoption process

Visit the shelter to meet the animals during open kennel viewing, fill out an adoption questionnaire (dog, cat, or small animal), talk with adoption staff, and, for dogs, schedule a meet-and-greet with any current dogs; once approved, staff walk you through the adoption agreement and fees, and all applicants must be 18 or older.
