Bitterroot Humane Association is the only animal shelter serving the Bitterroot Valley, operating continuously since 1972 from its facility at 262 Fairgrounds Road in Hamilton, Montana, about 45 miles north of Missoula. As a humane society based in Ravalli County, it shares the region with 2 other animal shelters or rescues also located in the county. Beyond sheltering and adopting out homeless dogs and cats, BRHA reunites lost pets with owners, runs a community pet food pantry, offers microchipping and ID tags, provides pet cremation services, and serves as an emergency hub for displaced residents and their animals during wildfires and other natural disasters. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and a member of the Bitterroot Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Hamilton Downtown Association.
