The Humane Society of Western Montana is a humane society located in Missoula, Montana, about 6 miles northeast of the city, offering pet adoption services, low-cost veterinary care, and training and behavior services to the Missoula and Western Montana community. It is open Wednesday through Sunday from 1:00 to 6:00 PM. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit that receives no government funding, HSWM relies solely on donations, events, and grants to support its work, which in 2025 included thousands of adoptions, vaccinations, and spay/neuter surgeries for dogs, cats, and small animals. The organization also partners with Petco Love Lost to help reunite lost and found pets with their owners.

Adoption process

Prospective adopters can browse adoptable dogs, cats, and small animals online and visit the shelter in person Wednesday–Sunday from 1-6pm to meet pets (calling ahead is recommended since some animals are in foster homes); adoption fees vary by species and age, and all dogs and cats are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped before going home.
