Midwest Avian Adoption & Rescue Services, Inc. (MAARS) is a parrot sanctuary and avian rescue based in Stillwater, Minnesota, in Washington County, about 15 miles southwest of St. Paul. Four other animal shelters or rescues also operate in Washington County. Founded in July 1999, MAARS has taken in almost 1,500 unwanted parrots, successfully placing more than 1,400 of them into permanent homes. The organization cares for its resident flock at its facility, The Landing, and its primary mission is educating the public, current parrot owners, and the veterinary community about the issues facing captive parrots.
