Home for Life®/The Animal Sanctuary of St. Croix Valley is a care-for-life animal sanctuary based in Stillwater, Minnesota, located in Washington County, roughly 15 miles southwest of St. Paul, MN, where four other animal shelters or rescues also operate. Rather than working toward temporary placement, Home for Life provides permanent lifetime care for dogs and cats who have been overlooked for adoption or who have lifelong special needs that most adopters cannot meet, an approach it calls the "Third Door" in animal welfare. The organization runs its sanctuary programs at a facility in Star Prairie, Wisconsin, and was named one of the 10 Most Amazing Sanctuaries in the country by USA Today in 2019. Beyond direct animal care, Home for Life also offers community outreach programs such as Peace Creatures®, Senior Outreach, Sit-Stay-Heal, The Renaissance Project, and Education Outreach.
