Delta Area Animal Society is an animal shelter located in Wells, Michigan, within Delta County, where two other animal shelters or rescues are also based; the area sits roughly 100 miles southwest of Green Bay, WI. It is a 501(c)3 private nonprofit that took over shelter operations in August 2011 after Delta County's Sheriff's Department was forced to close the facility due to budget cuts. As the county's only animal shelter, it operates on an open-admissions basis, turning no animal away, and provides shelter, food, and medical care to over 1,200 animals each year while working to reunite pets with their families or place them in new forever homes. The shelter reports a save rate of 98%, putting it at "no-kill" status, and is supported by a community board of 11 directors and a membership of more than 80 people.
