HART of Maine - Adoption Center & Shelter for Cats is a mostly volunteer-run, no-kill cat rescue located in Cumberland, Maine, about 10 miles south of Portland. Its mission is to provide refuge, comfort, and medical attention to cats that have been surrendered, abandoned, injured, or abused, and to find them permanent loving homes. The shelter maintains an average population of about 85 cats on-site, with some staying for months or even years, while local foster homes care for hundreds of kittens as well as senior and special-needs adult cats each year.
