Heartland Small Animal Rescue Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)3 rescue organization located in Mishawaka, Indiana, about 4 miles southwest of South Bend, IN, and is open 24 hours every day of the week. The rescue was originally founded to save small pocket pets like rabbits and guinea pigs from shelters, later expanding to cats, then dogs in 2010, and most recently to reptiles and birds. Run by a dedicated group of volunteers, Heartland pulls animals in need from local and regional Midwest shelters and, space permitting, accepts pets from owners who can no longer care for them, relying heavily on foster homes and donations to continue its work. Please note that, by law, the rescue cannot accept stray animals or wildlife.
