Brandywine Valley SPCA's Copeland Center for Animal Welfare in New Castle, Delaware serves as a humane society location about six miles northeast of Wilmington, DE. It is open Tuesday through Friday from 12:00–7:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 AM–5:00 PM. As one of the region's only remaining open-access shelters, Brandywine Valley SPCA cares for more than 27,000 animals a year, taking in lost pets, abandoned dogs and cats, cruelty victims, pets needing rehoming, and homeless animals at risk of euthanasia elsewhere. Its mission, "putting the human back in humane," drives programs such as adoption, fostering, low-cost wellness and spay/neuter clinics, and behavior support for adopters and pet owners.
