Humane Society for Southwest Washington in Vancouver, WA

The Humane Society for Southwest Washington has been caring for animals in its community since 1897. Based in Vancouver, Washington, roughly 9 miles west of the city, this humane society offers adoption of dogs, cats, and small animals, along with low-cost community veterinary care, dog training classes, pet food assistance, and a foster program, guided by its mission of rescue, return, restore, rehome, and reconnect. It also operates a second campus in Longview and runs the ReTails Thrift Store to support its animal welfare programs. The shelter is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 12:00 to 6:00 PM.

Adoption process

Adopters can view adoptable pets online or visit the Vancouver or Longview campus during business hours, and must ensure all household members and any resident dogs meet the pet before adoption (an adoption social is required for dogs joining a home with other dogs). All pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated before adoption, and adopters must pay an adoption fee, obtain required items (like a collar/leash for dogs or a carrier for cats), and get a county pet license at the time of adoption.
