Adoption Process
The adoption process consists of several important steps to ensure a successful match between you and a boxer. Step 1: Review the Adoption Requirements To be eligible to adopt, you must reside in Northern California, the Central Valley (Fresno or further north), or the Nevada/California Stateline area. We cannot accept applications from out-of-state or from southern California due to geographic and capacity limitations. Applicants must be at least 21 years old. All pets currently in your household must be spayed or neutered, on heartworm prevention, and up to date on vaccinations. We will contact your veterinarian to verify that these medical requirements have been met. As a general guideline, we do not foster or adopt to families with children under five years old, but exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis after the initial application is approved and an additional child questionnaire is satisfactorily completed. Exceptions can occur if you meet any of the following criteria: you are a previous NCBR adopter, you have a history of owning boxer or bully breeds, or you have answered the application questions regarding children satisfactorily. Most of our boxers have issues that prevent us from placing them in homes with children under 15, which may result in a lengthy wait for a suitable match. Applicants with children under 15 will need to answer additional questions to ensure the protection of both the boxers and the families involved. If you rent your home, you must provide your landlord's contact information, as verbal approval is required. Homes with pools lacking access barriers may be ineligible for adoption. We do not adopt female boxers into homes with other medium or large breed female dogs due to dominance issues, and we will not place a boxer in a home with a cat unless they have previously lived with one or have been properly introduced. Dogs are not adopted as gifts. Puppies will only be adopted to homes with a preexisting adult dog, no children under five, and where the puppy will not be left alone for long periods. All pets must be indoor companions. NCBR does not adopt out of state, except in northwest Nevada. For families with children under 15, please review our specific policies related to adoption. Step 2: The Application The adoption process begins with the completion of our online adoption application. It is essential to answer all questions honestly and thoroughly, including your physical home address and not a P.O. Box. Due to limited resources, we cannot provide information about available dogs until the application is fully completed. Given the volume of applications, it may take up to 14 days for a volunteer to contact you regarding your application status. If you wish to inquire about the status of your application, please email us. NCBR places dogs in homes that best fit their needs rather than on a first-come, first-served basis. While we strive to ensure fair opportunities for all applicants, suitability and interest from other applicants may affect the adoption process. Step 3: The Application Fee Your application will be processed once we receive the non-refundable $25 application fee. After submitting your application, you will be directed to PayPal to make the payment. Alternatively, you may mail your fee, but please be aware that processing will only begin once the check has cleared, potentially increasing the time required to process your application. Our mailing address is: NCBR Headquarters 1520 E. Covell B-5 PMB #262 Davis, CA 95616 The application fee helps us manage the volume of applications we receive weekly and ensures that applicants are committed to the adoption process. Step 4: Preliminary Screening After submitting your application and fee, a member of our applications team will contact you via email to confirm receipt and inform you that processing is underway. We will reach out to your veterinarian and landlord references, if applicable, and may require additional information from you. The preliminary screening process may take up to a week or longer, depending on how quickly we can gather the necessary information. Step 5: Meet & Greets We will assist you in identifying which of our dogs would be the best fit for your household. We will arrange private meet and greet sessions with you, your family, and the potential dog, or you can attend one of our adoption events to meet multiple dogs. Our focus is on making the best placement for both the family and the dog based on individual needs. We rely heavily on feedback from our foster families, who are best acquainted with the dogs, and they have final approval on placements. If a foster family does not believe your situation is the best match for their dog, please understand that this is in the best interest of both parties. You will need to visit the foster family's home to meet the dog. Step 6: Home Visit The home visit is a crucial part of the application process, allowing us to understand your needs in a canine companion. During this visit, we will ask questions, assess the areas of your home where the dog will have access, and inspect your fence for necessary repairs. Your participation and questions during this visit are encouraged, and all household members must be present. After the visit, the home visitor will submit a report for the applications team to review. You will be notified of your application status within three days. If you have not heard from us within that timeframe, please feel free to reach out for an update. Step 7: Adoption Day Adoption day is an exciting occasion! Be prepared by purchasing necessary supplies to facilitate the transition for your new boxer, including water and food bowls, treats, a crate if needed, a collar, and a leash. At this time, you will sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Each boxer will have received the following medical care: three vaccinations (rabies, DHPP, and bordetella), a 4DX heartworm test and treatment if needed, a health exam, a fecal test and deworming, spay/neuter surgery, and microchipping. The adoption fee is intended to cover the medical costs for all dogs in our care, rather than for the purchase of the dog. Please note that a portion of your adoption fee may be tax-deductible; consult your tax advisor for more information.

NorCal Boxer Rescue in Davis, CA
NorCal Boxer Rescue was established in June 1998 to address the need for a reliable boxer rescue organization in Northern California. In the subsequent months, we focused on building the organization by fostering relationships with local shelters and creating a network of foster homes and volunteers. Within our first year, we achieved federal 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and successfully rescued and re-homed numerous boxers. Since our inception, we have had the privilege of saving the lives of thousands of boxers and providing many families with loving and loyal companions. Thank you for visiting us. Our mission, "Leave No Boxer Behind," reflects our commitment to providing a temporary sanctuary for boxers in need throughout Northern California, including the Central Valley and areas near the Nevada/California state line. We rescue boxers from shelters and from owners who can no longer care for them. While we strive to save every boxer in need, our priority is to assist the most vulnerable dogs, including those that are elderly, ill, injured, or at high risk of euthanasia in shelters. Each rescued animal receives essential veterinary care, spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, a microchip, a temporary foster home, abundant love, and placement into a carefully screened forever home. Our organization operates solely through the efforts of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about preserving this remarkable breed. Nearly 100% of our adoption fees and donations are directed toward the care of our boxers.
