Benton County Animal Shelter in Camden, TN
We operate as a county-funded and county-owned animal shelter, with our primary mission focused on animal control. My personal goal is to reunite every lost pet with its owner and to find homes for all discarded, surrendered, or displaced animals. This work brings both joy and heartache. Our county faces challenges related to overpopulation due to unspayed and unneutered animals, which leads to a continual influx of litters at our shelter. We have the capacity to care for 40 animals comfortably, with a maximum limit of 80. Currently, we are housing 63 animals. Each year, our shelter receives over 1,000 animals. I am committed to educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering, securing grants to assist pet owners in this regard, and reducing our intake to a manageable 300-400 animals. Achieving this goal will enable us to ensure that every animal is either adopted by our community or rescued.

Adopting from Benton County Animal Shelter
Adoption process
The adoption process involves several steps to ensure a good match between pets and their new families. It begins with a verbal interview, followed by a pet family match. After this, a contract must be signed, and an adoption fee of $85 for dogs or $65 for cats is required. Adopters will select a preferred veterinarian in Benton County and schedule an appointment for spaying or neutering. The adopted pet will be transported by the Benton County Animal Shelter (BCAS) to the veterinarian's office. Adopters can choose to pick up their pet from the veterinarian or from BCAS at a later date without any additional charge. To support new pet owners, adopters are encouraged to take free pet treats, a collar, leash, and any available surplus pet care items. Additionally, cat adopters will receive a Purina portfolio, while dog adopters will receive a Blue Buffalo portfolio.
