Adoption Process
To adopt a pet, prospective adopters must complete a three-page adoption application and agreement. This form requires them to provide information about their veterinarian and any current pets they own. Before an application can be approved, all pets in the household, including cats, dogs, horses, and ferrets, must be up to date on their rabies vaccinations. Adopters are also required to disclose their living situation, indicating whether they rent or own their home. This is important as certain rental properties may have restrictions on pets, including specific breed, species, gender, or weight limitations. The adoption fees at Golden Belt Humane Society for fully vetted cats and dogs are as follows: For dogs, the fee is $150. This includes spaying or neutering, a heartworm test, age-appropriate vaccinations (including rabies, parvo/distemper, and bordatella), deworming, microchipping, and monthly preventative care. For cats, the fee is $40. This includes spaying or neutering, testing for Felv/Fiv, age-appropriate feline vaccinations (including rabies), deworming, and monthly preventative care.
