Adoption Process

We request that potential adopters complete a questionnaire that gathers information about their circumstances, preferences for a cat, and details about any current or past pets. If the applicant appears to be a suitable match, we will arrange a meeting at the foster home. We ask that adopters bring a cat carrier in case they choose to take a cat or kitten home that day. In Georgia, we offer a foster-to-adopt agreement for kittens that have not yet been spayed. Under this agreement, adopters sign a commitment while we cover the kitten's veterinary care until the spay or neuter procedure is completed at one of our partner veterinarians. If the cat or kitten is already spayed or neutered, adopters will sign a standard adoption agreement. We do not have a fixed adoption fee; instead, we request a donation of the adopter's choosing. Kittens begin their vaccination series at six weeks of age, with a follow-up at nine weeks, and receive rabies vaccination, spay/neuter, final FVRCP vaccination, and microchipping at twelve weeks. However, adopters may choose to adopt a kitten as young as eight weeks.

Service Areas

We serve all of northeast Georgia by providing trap loans and training, as well as funding for spay/neuter services in Clarke County, Oconee County, Jackson County, Madison County, and Oglethorpe County. Additionally, we pull cats that are labeled as unadoptable from Clarke, Madison, Oglethorpe, and Oconee Counties for our barn cat program.

Cat Zip Alliance/Campus Cats in Watkinsville, GA

I am a founding member of our non-profit, which attained 501(c)(3) status in 2007. Our initial mission focused on the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and care of community cats on the University of Georgia campus, as well as finding homes for tame cats and kittens. As the only TNR organization in the region, we quickly expanded our efforts beyond the campus. Our mission is now articulated as follows: Cat Zip Alliance/Campus Cats is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff, ensuring that all donations are directly allocated to veterinary care, food, and necessary supplies. We aim to promote humane and effective management of community cats through our TNR, barn cat, and adoption programs, thereby keeping these cats out of animal control facilities. On a local level, we provide daily care for community cats residing on and near University of Georgia property. On a broader scale, we lend traps, conduct TNR workshops, and offer training sessions to equip individuals with the tools they need to manage community cats in their own neighborhoods or businesses. We serve Athens Clarke County and the surrounding areas in mid- and northeast Georgia. My personal commitment to this cause stems from my background as a professional wildlife biologist and ornithologist, with extensive experience in inventory and monitoring. I strongly advocate for the humane and effective TNR method as the best approach to reducing community cat populations and minimizing conflicts with wildlife. Additionally, I believe it is essential to establish standardized protocols for TNR practices.
