About this shelter

Athens Alliance of All-Breed Canine Rescue and Referral /Athens Canine Rescue in Athens, GA

Athens Alliance of All-Breed Canine Rescue and Referral, also known as Athens Canine Rescue, is a dog rescue based in Athens, Georgia, located in Clarke County, about 2 miles east of Athens, GA, alongside 3 other animal shelters/rescues in the county. It operates as a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers, with no shelter facility of its own; instead, it relies on a network of foster homes to house dogs until they are placed in permanent homes. ACR only takes in dogs that are friendly companion animals, and while these rescue dogs have often been neglected by previous owners and may not arrive well-trained, they are described as loving, trainable, willing to please, and grateful. The organization funds its work entirely through donations and offers options like traditional fostering and virtual fostering for those unable to bring a dog into their home.
