Athens Area Humane Society is located in Athens, Georgia, about 5 miles east of the city, and is open Monday, Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. In 2025 alone, its work helped 1,319 pets find homes, supported 8,665 spay/neuter surgeries, and distributed 193,630 lbs of pet food through community programs like the Full Bellies Food Bowl. The shelter also runs a free vaccine clinic, a community cats program, and pet rehoming services, and relies heavily on volunteers and fosters to carry out its lifesaving mission.
