Chihuahua Rescue & Transport is a nonprofit organization based in Bantam, Connecticut, located in Litchfield County, roughly 15 miles southeast of Waterbury—one of 8 other animal shelters and rescues also serving Litchfield County. The organization is dedicated to rescuing Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes, operating through a network of dedicated volunteers across three regions—Midwest, Southeast, and Southwest—who attend to each dog's immediate medical, emotional, and behavioral health. Rather than housing dogs in a physical shelter, CRT relies entirely on carefully screened foster homes, and its goal is to place rescues into approved forever homes or long-term foster care where they can live their best lives. The group has successfully placed thousands of rescued dogs into forever homes over the years.

Adoption process

Applicants submit an online adoption application, undergo a mandatory home visit and reference/vet checks, and if approved by the regional coordinator and foster parent, sign an adoption contract and pay an adoption donation (minimum $250, varying by region).
