Adoption Process
The adoption process begins with the submission of an application. We verify references, including those from current and past veterinarians as well as personal references. It is required that all current and previous pets are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and living in a clean, happy, and healthy environment. Potential adopters must provide a positive reference from their veterinarian. Additionally, a preliminary search of the potential adopter's residence will be conducted online before scheduling a home visit. A volunteer from Kerry's Cats will visit the adopter's home along with the pet to ensure a suitable match between the pet and the adopting family. If the pet is under five months old and not yet spayed or neutered, arrangements for the procedure will be made with our veterinarian, and the adopter must ensure that the appointment is attended. The cost of the spay/neuter procedure is included in the adoption fee. Any exceptions to this protocol must be approved prior to the home visit, at the discretion of the foster home, and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If necessary, Kerry's Cats volunteers will accompany the pet to the appointment. Noncompliance with these requirements will result in the need to return the pet to Kerry's Cats.

Kerry A. Spitzenberger Foundation dba Kerry's Cats in McConnells, SC
Kerry's Cats was established in 2010 by Kerry A. Spitzenberger as a small, non-profit, foster home-based cat rescue organization recognized as a 501(c)(3). Our mission is to care for, rehabilitate, and find homes for cats that have been neglected, mistreated, or abandoned. All funds raised are dedicated to the care of our foster cats. Our goal is to eliminate homelessness among cats in the York County, SC area. We pursue this mission through three primary strategies: First, we work with at-risk cats in their current homes to help keep them there by providing assistance with veterinary care, food, shelter, containment, and education as needed. Second, we offer low-cost spay and neuter services to cat owners to help control the population of potentially at-risk pets within our designated area. Finally, when other options are not viable, we provide rescue and adoption services for these cats.
