Whisker Trap Feline Rescue a/k/a JoAnna Tomuro in Anchorage, AK

Our mission is to rescue and rehome unowned or abandoned cats by collaborating with other rescue organizations whenever possible. We aim to control the population of unowned cats through public education and community support. With over seven years of experience in cat rescue, I began as a foster caregiver and quickly recognized the substantial need for assistance in this field. I learned the process of trap-neuter-return (TNR) in my hometown of Oahu, where the demand for help is significant. I have personally funded and facilitated the transport of more than 24 cats and kittens from Hawaii to Alaska for adoption. Previously, I worked with a large cat rescue in Anchorage, where I utilized your database and appreciated its functionality. I maintain a regular job that finances my rescue efforts, and I operate entirely on a nonprofit basis. In 2021, I successfully trapped and rescued 109 cats and kittens, with 81% placed with partner organizations and 17% assisted within the community.

Adoption process

The adoption process begins with an initial phone or in-person screening, followed by a home visit. An adoption contract is required, which includes a no declaw agreement. We also conduct post-adoption follow-ups. The adoption fees are $150 for adult cats and $175 for kittens. All cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and tested for feline leukemia.
