Rutherford County Humane Society in Rutherfordton, NC

The Rutherford County Humane Society is dedicated to enhancing and safeguarding the bond between humans and companion animals while promoting the welfare of dogs and cats in Rutherford County. Our primary objective is to encourage and facilitate spaying and neutering to prevent the birth and subsequent euthanasia of numerous unwanted animals. Additionally, we strive to prevent cruelty and abuse through active humane education. Founded in 1976, the Rutherford County Humane Society obtained tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) status and has been operating its current chapter since 1993. We are licensed by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture to run a small adoption center exclusively for cats. Currently, our organization includes 22 active volunteers and 98 supporting members. We are governed by a seven-member Board of Directors, who serve three-year terms, and a slate of officers elected annually.

Adoption process

To begin the adoption process, please complete and submit a dog or cat adoption application online through our website. Our volunteers will review your application and will reach out to you if it is approved. Once approved, you will need to complete and submit the Pet Adoption Contract and make the necessary payment for the adoption.
