About this shelter

Shelter on the Hill, A Humane Society in Lebec, CA

Shelter on the Hill, A Humane Society is located in Lebec, California, in Kern County, about 60 miles southeast of Los Angeles, and is one of 18 animal shelters and rescues serving Kern County. It is a private, non-profit, donor-supported organization founded to meet a need identified by Frazier Mountain area residents nearly 20 years ago, built around a mission of "rescue, reunite and rehome" lost and abandoned companion animals. The shelter accepts all animals in need of care and provides medical and behavioral treatment, rehabilitation, socialization, and adoption services, along with community programs like foster care, humane education, pet assistance for people in need, and lost-and-found support. It remains committed to the welfare of its animals beyond adoption, to the extent of its resources, and features a rotating "Dog of the Month" and "Cat of the Month" to highlight adoptable pets.
