Taps Animal Shelter (TAPS – Tazewell Animal Protective Society) is a No-Kill animal shelter located in Pekin, Illinois, in Tazewell County, about 10 miles north of Peoria. It is an independent, local nonprofit serving homeless dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens of all sizes, breeds, and colors, providing medical care, training, and foster care until permanent homes can be found; adopters from outside the Central Illinois area are welcome as long as all family members can travel to the shelter to meet the animal. Two other animal shelters or rescues also serve Tazewell County. The shelter is open Tuesday through Friday from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Saturday from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and Sunday from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, with adoption visits currently by appointment only through a pre-approved application.
