Applicants submit an online adoption application; TAPS reviews it (which can take several days) and then a staff member calls to schedule an appointment, since the shelter is open by appointment only for approved applicants and not for public walk-in viewing.

TAPS No-Kill Animal Shelter, formally known as the Tazewell Animal Protective Society, is located in Pekin, Illinois, in Tazewell County, about 10 miles north of Peoria. As a no-kill shelter, TAPS provides a home for homeless dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens of all sizes, breeds, and colors until permanent adoptive homes can be found, offering medical care, training, and foster support along the way. The shelter operates by appointment only with a pre-approved application and, while based in Central Illinois, will adopt animals out to families outside the area as long as everyone in the household can travel to meet the pet in person. TAPS is one of three animal shelters or rescues serving Tazewell County, Illinois.
