Big Cat Rescue is a cat rescue organization located in Tampa, Florida, in Hillsborough County, roughly 10 miles southeast of the city, with 12 other animal shelters and rescues also based in the county. Founded in 1992, the organization began by addressing the mistreatment of big cats in captivity and helped champion passage of the federal Big Cat Public Safety Act in December 2022, ending private ownership and public handling of big cats and their cubs in the U.S. Today its mission centers on funding in-situ conservation projects worldwide to protect wild cats from poaching, trafficking, bushmeat and sport hunting, and habitat loss, guided by the motto "Wildcats in the wild; Our Mission, Their Future," and it has consistently earned Charity Navigator's highest four-star rating. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
