Founded in 1990, it began as a Boston Terrier rescue in San Francisco before expanding to help small dogs of all kinds, and it now rescues small dogs ranging from six weeks to 16 years old. Every dog in its care lives in a loving foster home, with special commitment given to dogs at the highest risk in shelters, including those with medical or emotional challenges; some remain long-term as "fospice" dogs, receiving comfort and care for the rest of their lives. Located about 1 mile east of San Francisco, it is one of 13 animal shelters and rescues serving San Francisco County.
