The Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL) is Phoenix, Arizona's oldest and largest no-kill shelter, located in Maricopa County about 5 miles west of Phoenix, where it shares the region with 90 other animal shelters and rescues. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, AAWL's mission is to provide excellent care, protection, and loving compassion for the animals entrusted to it while promoting humane values for the benefit of all animals and people. The shelter finds homes for adoptable dogs and cats and, as a no-kill facility, does not euthanize healthy or treatable animals even when at capacity, reserving euthanasia only for terminally ill animals or those posing a danger to public safety. Beyond adoptions, AAWL offers community veterinary services, dog training, foster and volunteer programs, and an owner-surrender program for pets in the Phoenix area.
