About this shelter

Hooved Animal Rescue of Thurston County in Olympia, WA

Hooved Animal Rescue of Thurston County is a rescue organization based in Olympia, Washington, about 20 miles northeast of Tacoma, in Thurston County, where 8 other animal shelters and rescues are also located. The rescue focuses on horses, taking in animals from neglect and seizure situations, including a case involving 14 starving horses rescued by Thurston County deputies, and it also cares for mares and their foals. Horses available for adoption are evaluated for temperament, training level, and health, with details such as breed, handling history, and suitability for activities like trail riding or 4-H projects provided to prospective adopters. The organization emphasizes finding homes even for older, less-sought-after horses, giving them a chance at a comfortable retirement rather than being overlooked.
