Animal Protection Society - Friday Harbor in Friday Harbor, WA
APS-FH was established in 1982 to assist stray and abandoned pets on San Juan Island. We operate as a no-kill, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that does not receive funding from the state or county. Our operations are entirely dependent on donations and fundraising efforts, along with some income from adoption and impound fees. Each year, we successfully facilitate the adoption of approximately 85 to 100 cats and 55 dogs. Additionally, we collaborate with other shelters facing overcrowding by accepting some of their animals when we have available space. I joined the shelter's board of directors and volunteered for two years before becoming the Director in 2004. I have held this position ever since and truly enjoy my role. Our shelter is small enough to allow us to provide the love and attention necessary for each animal until they find their forever home.
