Adoption Process

Fees and Requirements Are you considering adding a new pet to your family? It's an important commitment. At Valley Humane Society, our mission is to find permanent homes for every dog and cat in our care. Our adoption counselors are available to help you choose the right pet for your family, but there are several factors to consider before proceeding with an adoption. Adoption Process Animals available for adoption are listed on our website, AdoptAPet.com, and PetFinder.com. Potential adopters should carefully read each animal's profile to assess if the pet is a suitable match and follow the instructions for submitting an application. Applications are specific to individual animals, and you can copy and paste the application URL from the animal's profile. Once Valley Humane receives your application, an adoption counselor will contact you for a phone interview. After submitting your application, be prepared to receive a call from us. The animals listed on our website are ready to go to their new homes, and adoption appointments are generally scheduled within 24 to 48 hours of application approval. To minimize social interaction between families, adoption appointments are set at staggered times throughout the day. Upon approval, you will need to complete additional paperwork. The adoption counselor will guide you through the Adoption Agreement, and we will provide copies of all documents and relevant medical information for your records. A take-home packet will be created, which includes feeding information for your new pet, verification of the animal's microchip, and preparation for travel. You will also need to pay the adoption fee. Please allow about one hour to complete the adoption process. After a quick photo for our Facebook page (optional), you will be ready to take your new friend home. Additional Requirements All adopters must meet the following criteria: You must be at least 21 years old, or 18 years old with a co-adopter who is 21 or older living at the same address. You must provide a legal ID that shows your current address to verify your age. Please understand that Valley Humane Society reserves the right to deny any adoption for any reason. Our goal is to find a home for every animal in our care, but we also have a responsibility to ensure that each animal is placed in a safe, loving environment that is appropriate for their temperament. You Made it Home… Now What? We want to ensure that you and your new pet have a happy life together. That's why we offer support and counseling during your transition. Feel free to contact us for assistance or advice, and explore specific topics in our Resources & Links section. If you have recently adopted a dog, please visit our page for information on how to register your pet in compliance with California state regulations. Adoption Fees The adoption fees are as follows: Adult dogs (5 months and older): $200 Puppies: $250 Adult cats (5 months and older): $100 Kittens: $125 Pair of kittens: $200 If you are over 65, please inquire about our Seniors for Seniors discount. The expenses involved in preparing an animal for adoption exceed the fees we charge, not including food, boarding, staff time, or overhead costs. However, you gain a great deal in return.

The mission of Valley Humane Society is to foster a brighter future for cats and dogs by promoting and strengthening the bond between humans and their pets. We rescue and rehabilitate companion animals, advocate for responsible pet ownership, provide comfort through the companionship of animals to those in need, and work to support and maintain the relationships between pets and their guardians.
