The Pet Samaritan Fund is a nonprofit animal shelter located in Salt Lake City, Utah, in Salt Lake County, where 25 other animal shelters or rescues also operate; the shelter itself sits approximately 5 miles northwest of downtown Salt Lake City. Founded in 1991 by Emily C. Dial, the organization rescues and transports abandoned, injured, and abused dogs and cats from Utah and surrounding states' animal control agencies to rescue groups in Utah and Colorado, saving animals that would otherwise be euthanized. Beyond sheltering and adoption, Pet Samaritan Fund assists low-income individuals and families with pet food, medical aid, supplies, and transportation, and it never euthanizes a healthy, adoptable animal. As an independent nonprofit not funded by national humane groups or government agencies, it relies entirely on adoption fees and donations to cover the cost of care.

Adopters view cats at Petco adoption venues (Midvale, Ogden, Draper) while dogs are adopted by appointment only; adopters must be willing and able to cover the pet's ongoing medical care, and if they can no longer keep the pet they must notify Pet Samaritan Fund and arrange its return.
