Applicants must be at least 25 years old and complete an online application, provide vet and personal references, get landlord approval if renting, undergo a phone interview and home visit, and pay an adoption fee ($100–$600); approved applicants must travel to the foster home to pick up the pup.

Yorkie Haven Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue organization based in Seabrook, Texas, in Harris County, roughly 25 miles northwest of Houston, where it is one of 28 animal shelters and rescues serving the county. Founded in 2006, the all-volunteer group has no paid staff and relies solely on public donations to rescue Yorkshire Terriers and Yorkie mixes regardless of age, sight, hearing, or other handicaps. Every dog is spayed or neutered, heartworm checked, and brought current on vaccines before being placed in a forever home, and the group emphasizes finding the right home for each pup rather than the right pup for a home. Volunteers, located throughout the United States, are also committed to educating the public, adopters, and fellow volunteers about the Yorkshire Terrier breed.
