The Summerlee Foundation, an animal shelter located in Dallas, Texas within Dallas County, sits alongside 52 other animal shelters and rescues in the county and lies approximately 6 miles south of Dallas. Founded in 1988 by Dallas philanthropist Annie Lee Roberts, it is a mission-driven organization dedicated to alleviating fear, pain, and suffering in animals and promoting animal protection and the prevention of cruelty to animals, alongside a parallel mission to preserve Texas history. Since its founding, the Foundation has awarded $40 million to grantees, and it is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors made up of animal and history experts and community leaders. It has been recognized as an Outstanding Foundation by the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
