The San Francisco SPCA is a humane society located in San Francisco, California, within San Francisco County, where 12 other animal shelters or rescues also operate. Situated about a mile northwest of the city center, it has been caring for animals since 1868 as an independent nonprofit supported entirely by community donations. Its mission is to ensure every companion animal has access to quality medical care, compassionate shelter, and a loving home, offering services that include a veterinary hospital, spay/neuter clinic, mobile vaccine clinics, and dog and cat adoption programs at what it calls San Francisco's largest adoption center.
