Adoption Process
Adoption is walk-in only (no appointment needed) with adoption counselors on site; adopters must be at least 18, provide a government-issued photo ID and proof of address, and can complete a same-day adoption if requirements are met.

The San Francisco SPCA Adoption Center is a humane society located in San Francisco, California, about 1 mile northwest of the city center. Originally founded in 1868, the organization now focuses exclusively on housing and rehoming cats and dogs, with dogs typically mixes of breeds like Australian Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Chihuahuas, Pit Bulls, and Terriers. The adoption center operates on a walk-in, first-come first-served basis, offering same-day adoptions, and every animal is spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and given preventative care before being placed on the adoption floor. The center is open Tuesday through Thursday 1:00–7:00 PM, Friday and Saturday 11:00 AM–7:00 PM, and Sunday 11:00 AM–6:00 PM.
