Adoption Process

The adoption fees are as follows: $100 for dogs and puppies, and $50 for cats. This fee includes mandatory spaying or neutering, which will be completed before you can take your new pet home. Additional services covered by the fee are basic vaccinations for dogs (DHPP-CPV), deworming, rabies vaccination if the pet is old enough, heartworm testing for dogs over five months, microchipping through 24-Pet Watch, a certificate for a free health examination at a participating veterinarian, and pet health insurance from 24-Pet Watch for covered illnesses or injuries for a duration of 30 to 45 days, sent to your email address. You will also receive a goodie bag filled with information, toys, and more. To expedite the adoption process, please fill out our Adoption Application. The Humane Society of Elmore County, located in Wetumpka, Alabama, just northeast of Montgomery, is a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status. We have been operating for nearly twenty years at our current location. As an Open Admission shelter, we take in over 5,000 domestic animals each year from residents of Elmore County and from various Animal Control Officers throughout the area. Our dedicated team works daily to provide a safe and humane environment for the 250 to 300 animals in our care, with the goal of finding loving, permanent homes for as many as possible. We are committed to educating the public on pet and animal welfare issues and welcome opportunities to engage with groups of all ages and interests. Our operational costs are covered through donations from individuals, groups, and businesses, as well as through our fundraising activities, grants, adoption fees, and contracts with local cities and the county for accepting animals from their Animal Control Officers. We appreciate all forms of support, including financial contributions, pet food and supplies for the shelter, and items for our Tails End Thrift Store located adjacent to the shelter. All donations are tax-deductible, and we are happy to provide a receipt upon request.
